The DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BULLETPROOF MATERIAL: PE AND KEVLAR Aug 11 , 2021

With the progress of society, the development and use of various new materials are becoming more and more abundant. The emergence of high-performance fiber materials has promoted the upgrading of bulletproof equipment. There are two main types of high-performance fiber materials on the market: PE and Kevlar. PE and Kevlar are the most materials to be used to make of bulletproof vest, bulletproof plates and bulletproof helmet. Since they are both high-performance fiber materials, what is the difference between them? The following China Xinxing Guangzhou Import and Export Co., LTD will explain:

PE refers to ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. Polyethylene products are everywhere in our daily life, such as plastic bags, beverage bottles, etc., so polyethylene is no stranger to us. Polyethylene has ultra-high stability and is extremely difficult to degrade. In addition, it has the characteristics of low temperature resistance, UV resistance, water resistance, and light weight, so it has become an ideal material for making bulletproof products. However, the high temperature resistance of PE is poor, and the use temperature needs to be controlled within 80°C (which can meet the temperature requirements of the human body and equipment-temperature resistance 55°C). Once this temperature is exceeded, its performance will drop rapidly. When the temperature reaches 150°C or more When it will melt. Although PE can meet most of the use scenarios, they are not suitable for use in high temperature environments like the Middle East.

Aramid, also known as Kevlar, has the advantages of high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance, light weight, and high strength. It has been widely used in bulletproof equipment, construction, and electronic equipment. Compared with PE, aramid has better high temperature resistance and creep resistance. Similarly, aramid fiber also has some shortcomings. If it encounters ultraviolet light, it will be degraded and easily hydrolyzed. Even if it is stored in a dry environment, it will absorb moisture in the air and gradually hydrolyze. Therefore, aramid fiber equipment is not suitable for long-term exposure to strong ultraviolet rays and Use in a relatively humid environment.
